The Carbondale Park District will make every attempt to facilitate inclusion of individuals with special needs into all of our programs and activities.
Leisure Is For Everyone (LIFE)
The Carbondale Park District will make every attempt to facilitate inclusion of individuals with special needs into our programs and activities.
Inclusion within the Carbondale Park District means individuals with disabilities are welcome to participate in the same recreation programs and activities as their peers. Reasonable accommodations, such as adaptive equipment or an aide, are provided to enable an individual’s successful participation in a program.
If you have questions about inclusion, please call 549-4222 to speak with the Recreation Coordinator.
In addition to inclusion in traditional recreation programs, the Carbondale Park District also has activities and programs that are geared towards individuals with special needs.
The goal of the Carbondale Park District special recreation program is to provide a diverse range of recreational opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.
As we begin to grow our special recreation program, we are open to any and all program ideas that will help expand our offerings.
Games with Friends
Come join us on Saturday mornings for games that focus on sports-related skill development and cooperative play. Improve social skills and locomotor activity through traditional playground games. This safe, welcoming environment is perfect for the independent special needs child.
Meet us Saturday, April 22 at the LIFE Community Center for a pick-up game of 16′ softball on the east side of the building at 11am. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy with new friends after the game. This is a free event that is open to all individuals. Don’t want to play ball? Come out to cheer, or just grab a lunch and meet up with us at noon.
Southern Illinois Autism Society Swim
This program is designed to provide students with special needs the opportunity to learn, enjoy, and thrive in an aquatic setting.
This fun-filled night is for individuals of all abilities and their friends and families at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course. The cost is only $5 for a night filled with music and dancing. There will even be snacks! Please pre-register.
Hickory Lodge Society
The Carbondale Park District has scheduled a series of get-togethers for adult special populations at the Hickory Lodge. Acitivies vary, but lively conversations, music, karaoke, games, and refreshments are planned. Come alone, with a friend, or in a group. Call 549-4222 to confirm your attendance.
