LIFE Community Yard Sale
Join the Carbondale Park District Saturday, May 20 from 7am-12pm as we host our Annual Community Yard Sale at Parrish Park East Parking Lot. Pack up all that “stuff” you no longer need and give others a chance to put it to good use. Your trash may be someone else’s treasure! Spaces are available for $10 each. Registration begins April 2017.
Coed Softball League
Games are on Wednesdays (and Mondays, if needed) and officiated according to A.S.A. rules with local exemptions adopted. The season ends with a double-elimination tournament to crown the League Champion. Registration starts March 1, 2017 and manager’s meeting is April 5, 2017 6:00pm at the LIFE Community Center. Fee is $525 per team.
Road Trip to Cahokia, IL
We are heading to the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, the largest prehistoric Native American Indian site north of Mexico. Explore the grounds and visit the Interpretive Center, which is hosting, “Spring Indian Market Days,” where over 30 American Indian artists and craftspersons will have their works on display and available for purchase. The trip home will include a stop at Eckert’s Country Store, Restaurant, and Garden Center in Belleville. Rate includes transportation and entrance to the Mounds.
Road Trip to Paducah, KY
Our first stop is the National Quilt Museum. One gallery features a traveling exhibit from Oakland, CA, “Neighborhoods Coming Together: Quilts Around Oakland.” The African American Quilt Guild of Oakland has shared a collection of their quilts exploring how their communities are linked. Lunch is planned at the nearby Golf Rush Cafe. The remainder of the afternoon will be spent exploring the unique shopping experience the Lower Town Arts District offers. Rate includes transportation and National Quilty Museum admission.
Pilates Plus Strength Training
This class includes both Pilates mat activities and activities to strengthen the upper and lower body. Use of weights, bands, and balls promote core and overall body strength and flexibility. Pilates activities are at the beginner and intermediate levels. Weight and other activities are modified to include a variety of performance levels.
Functional Fitness and Strength Training
Activities that strengthen muscles and replicate motor patterns used in daily living are the focus of this class. A variety of levels will be accommodated. Most movements such as lifting, pushing, and rotating can be worked on from a standing and/or seated position.
