AQUATIC COORDINATOR

Recreation Division

NATURE OF THE WORK

The Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for planning, promoting, and overseeing aquatic programs; hiring, scheduling, and supervising lifeguards, instructors, aquatic maintenance staff and volunteers; and ensures proper pool, equipment, and locker room maintenance. The Aquatics Coordinator works under the supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation. This position is full-time and includes a benefit package.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Recruit; select, hire, and schedule aquatic staff
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct monthly in-service training and new staff orientation and training
  • Maintain proper pool chemical levels at all times
  • Maintain rescue ready status of the lifeguard and first aid equipment
  • Maintain compliance with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Jackson County Health Department
  • Oversee program goals and budgets
  • Provide program descriptions, schedules, and budgets for all aquatic programs
  • Monitor and assist in maintenance of registration software
  • Interact with the general public effectively
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with other agencies, both public and private
  • Handle aquatic department and program promotion

 OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Make requests and recommendations for the purchase of supplies and new equipment
  • Ensure the Daily Pool Readings and Duty Reports are accurately completed
  • Maintain record of staff certification and expiration dates; schedule training as needed
  • Maintain volunteer, program, and accident/incident report files
  • Coordinate pool and locker room maintenance
  • Conduct sand filter backwash
  • Maintain inventory of all pool chemicals, supplies, and equipment
  • Maintain safe chemical storage area
  • Keep hazardous material data current
  • Participate in training sessions and career development programs as assigned
  • Lifeguard as needed
  • Coordinate with other Park District staff to carry out assignments
  • Assume additional duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED/PR, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor certification or ability to obtain within six months
  • Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain within six months
  • Swimming pool management experience
  • Ability to lead and supervise staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Computer experience: Windows. Microsoft Office, Adobe, program registration, social media

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer
  • American Water Safety Instructor Trainer
